Delta Welcomes New Magazine Editor

   06.23.11

Delta Waterfowl is pleased to announce Paul Wait has joined the organization as editor of Delta Magazine.

Wait, 43, a native of East-Central Wisconsin, brings more than 15 years experience as a magazine and newspaper editor to Delta. He previously was editor of Wildfowl, Wisconsin Outdoor Journal and The Trapper & Predator Caller magazines.

A life-long waterfowl hunter, Wait was introduced to the sport by his father where they hunted ducks and geese at a family-owned cranberry marsh. There, his fascination for waterfowl grew. He soon lined the property’s creeks with wood duck nesting boxes and tried to establish a stand of wild rice.

He studied wildlife management at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point before transferring to St. Cloud (Minn.) State University to earn a degree in mass communications and English.

Wait has volunteered for several conservation initiatives. He served as Agenda Committee chairman for the Wisconsin Waterfowl Hunters Conference, wrote a successful grant for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Learn to Hunt program and helped secure funding for a blue-winged teal nesting study.

“I’m thrilled to join the Delta Waterfowl communications team,” he said. “I’m passionate about all things ducks and geese, including North America’s waterfowl hunting heritage.”

Wait has hunted waterfowl throughout the continent, from eiders in Maine to pintails in Texas to Aleutian Canada geese in California. If he had to choose just one species to hunt, he’d likely pick bluebills, with canvasbacks a close second.

“I love to hunt divers, but my favorite duck is the one closing in on my decoy spread,” Wait said. “I’ve never met a duck or goose that I didn’t like.”

He lives in Central Illinois with his wife, two daughters and the family’s 1-year-old golden retriever.

Wait can be reached by e-mail at pwait@deltawaterfowl.org.
