Golden Gate Canyon State Park’s Fourth of July Wild Life Weekend

GOLDEN, Colo. – Join Golden Gate Canyon State Park this Fourth of July weekend as they celebrate the wild history and wild animals of the park. The weekend kicks off on Friday night with campfire stories and the fun continues Saturday through Monday with a blacksmith demonstration, live birds and snakes, children’s activities, hikes and more!
Highlights include:
Saturday, July 2, 10 a.m – 2 p.m. Blacksmith Demonstration. Amphitheater, Reverend’s Ridge Campground. Stop by the Amphitheater throughout the morning to explore the art of the blacksmith during the 19th century. Park volunteer Veny Musumecci will talk about the history and tools of the trade, as well as provide live demonstrations at the forge.
Saturday, July 2, 7:30 p.m. Raptors of the Rockies! Amphitheater, Reverend’s Ridge Campground. Come watch and learn about Colorado’s birds of prey! Wild Wings Environmental Education staff will lead a one hour interactive program discussing the adaptations and tools raptors use to survive in the wild. This program features a live owl and hawk, so please, no pets at the amphitheater tonight!
Sunday, July 3, 7 p.m. Snakes Alive! Amphitheater, Reverend’s Ridge Campground. Have you ever wondered how a snake moves, eats, or sheds it skin? Are snakes slimy? Do they really bite their tail and roll down a hill? Come learn the truth about snakes and explore their amazing world with the Center for Snake Conservation. This is a hands-on program to discover the fascinating habits and adaptations of snakes in a safe (for the snakes of course) and educational environment.
Weekend events are free, but all visitors must purchase a parks pass before entering the park. All ages and abilities are welcome.
