Hunter Education Instructors Needed

July 06, 2011- Passing on our hunting heritage and positively influencing young Alabama hunters to be safe while afield is extremely important. The Alabama Division of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries needs your assistance if you are the type of person who takes pride in protecting our hunting heritage by passing on the finer points of being a safe, responsible hunter. Volunteer instructors play a critical role in delivering the hunter education message to the 12,000 students who successfully complete an approved hunter education course annually in Alabama. The efforts of Hunter Education Instructors have led to a significant decline in the hunting accident rate during the past two decades.
Becoming a certified Alabama Hunter Education Instructor is a two-step process that requires instructor candidates to complete an Associate Hunter Education Instructor application and successfully complete the hunter education certification workshop.
The following are instructor classes currently scheduled:
July 12 – Lee County; School of Forestry and Wildlife Science at Auburn, Ala. – 5:30-9:30 p.m.
July 19 – Houston County; Lake Fox Road East, Lot # 11 in Chancellor, Ala. – 5:30-9:30 p.m.
August 4 – Clarke County; Cooperative Extension Office in Grove Hill, Ala. – 6-10 p.m.
All instructor applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be at least 21 years of age
- Enjoy working with young people
- Believe in and practice safe, responsible hunting and “fair chase”
