   07.11.11

SALIDA, Colo. – Join volunteers at the Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area (AHRA), volunteer geologist Bob Hickey and park naturalist Claire Davis on a walk and talk through time on Saturday, July 16 beginning at 6 p.m. at AHRA’s Ruby Mountain Campground amphitheater.

Bob Hickey will explain the volcanic activity which occurred in the Ruby Mountain area south of Buena Vista, and how it helped form the geologic features, the Arkansas River valley, canyons and mountains. As part of the program, Bob Hickey will take visitors on a guided hike through this unique landscape.

Programs are for all ages and are free. However, all vehicles that enter the Ruby Mountain site must purchase a park entrance permit for $7, or display an annual parks pass.
