The New Lew’s Makes Impactful Return to ICAST

No smoke and mirrors here, only a solid lineup of several innovative Lew’s products being introduced at ICAST the good ol’ fashioned way, just like Lew Childre himself preferred to do it.

Industry veteran Lynn Reeves, Lew’s relatively new owner and a friend of the late Childre, is also a man who likes to let the product speak for itself. “We believe making good product is how a proud American brand like this earns respect and customer loyalty,” Reeves said.

The reborn Lew’s has been a shining star with anglers and retailers alike in 2011, and more than 100 SKUs will be introduced at next week’s ICAST show as further proof of the brand’s return to prominence. Look for many of these in the New Product Showcase.

Among the introductions is the all-new Tournament MG Speed Spool baitcast series. These reels feature a deep, large capacity aluminum spool to hold 150 yards of 12 lb. test, which better serves many freshwater and inshore fishing applications where more or heavier line is needed. These reels have an externally adjustable magnetic braking system and sport a 95MM power cranking handle.

Also new is the Laser MG Speed Spool baitcast series. There are some line extensions, too, including the already popular Tournament Pro baitcasters. Spinning reels are getting attention also – the new Laser Speed Spins’ debut will make anglers and their wallets smile.

Childre, who gets credit for so many industry firsts in rod and reel designs, would surely be proud of what Reeves and staff have done with new-for-2012 rod introductions. Some, such as the Laser and brand new SG rod series, are all about having the right actions and components at a value. But then the Tournament SL HM60, with its Micro Guide system, is all about new technology and top-of-the-line performance. Its multi-layer, multi-directional 60 million modulus graphite blanks reinforced with premium resins provide the perfect blend of lightweight, strength and sensitivity. The micro guide system and skeletal reel seat are also lightweight attributes.

The original Lew’s company was founded on Childre’s passion for bamboo poles and bream fishing. The new Lew’s has a panfish focus as well, teaming with longtime crappie guru Wally Marshall who has been called “Mr. Crappie” for nearly 25 years now. Together they have developed a Lew’s exclusive lineup of crappie rods and reels under the Wally Marshall Signature Series. Crappie anglers will be thrilled with the performance and looks of all Lew’s Wally Marshall products.

“This is an exciting time for our company and we’re looking at ICAST as our ‘Lew’s is back’ statement,” said Gary Remensynder, Lew’s president and also a seasoned industry executive. “Lynn knows product development like only a handful of experts do, and what you’ll see in our booth is proof. We invite you to look us up in Vegas to see for yourself.”
