Begich Boggs Visitor Center Celebrates 25 Years

Join us in celebrating the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Chugach National Forest’s Begich, Boggs Visitor Center. In honor of our silver anniversary, exhibits and entrance to the movie are free to the public. Free coffee and cake will be served at 2 p.m. in the classroom. Center hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

There will also be a Visitor Center Staff Reunion Potluck after hours in the Center’s classroom. We invite you to come and share your memories if you worked at the Center in the past! Please bring a potluck dish or nonalcoholic beverage to share.

If you can’t make it out on July 17, come out for the Portage Valley BioBlitz July 23-24 from noon to noon. The BBVC classroom will be headquarters for the 24-hour BioBlitz as biologists and naturalists team up with citizen scientists (that’s you) to discover and count the abundant mammal, bird, fish, plant and invertebrate life that populates Portage Valley. In addition to flora and fauna counts, you can take part in identification walks; meet the birds from the Bird Treatment and Learning Center; head out on an ice worm safari; identify some animal tracks and scat; and lots more.
