Indiana DNR Make Arrest in the Shooting of a 63 Year Old Man

Indiana Conservation Officers have arrested Brandon Criss, 25 years old, from Bloomfield, for criminal recklessness with a firearm in the shooting of Stephen D. Moberly, 63 years old, from Linton.  The incident occurred in the early afternoon of yesterday’s date at the Goose Pond Fish and Wildlife Area in Greene County.

According to the investigation, Moberly had just finished kayaking in the Goose Pond Fish and Wildlife Area’s Main Pool West, Area 1.  Criss, who had bicycled into the area, momentarily exchanged pleasantries with Moberly then walked away out of sight. Criss and Moberly were not acquainted.  A short time later, a shot rang out with a projectile striking Moberly in the head.  Moberly was able to leave the area and drove to the Linton Police Department to report the incident.  Law Enforcement responded to the Goose Pond Fish and Wildlife Area at approximately 2:30 PM, EST.

Brad Feaster, manager of the fish and wildlife property, spotted Criss bicycling out of the area and alerted authorities.  Criss was taken into custody by Indiana Conservation Officers, taken to the Greene County Hospital for evaluation, then transported to the Greene County Jail.  A backpack found at the scene of the arrest contained a 20 gauge sawed off shotgun.

Moberly was treated by the Linton Fire Department at the time he reported the incident and released.

The incident is still under investigation. Further charges are pending.  Indiana Conservation Officers are being assisted by Linton Police Department and the Greene County Sheriff’s Department.
