Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Results from the Ohio River

This past Saturday July 30th the Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Trail hit the waters of the  Ohio River at Metropolis, Illinois where nearly 80 anglers from 9 different states were competing not only for cash and prizes, but the opportunity to qualify for the 2011 Cabela’s King Kat Classic. This year’s Cabela’s King Kat Classic will be held at  Burlington, Iowa October 28th & 29th.

Results for the Top 5 Teams

Taking first place was the team Jeff Dodd of Trenton, Tennessee and Chris Stout of Jackson, Tennessee with an impressive weight of 151.95 pounds including a 41.25 pound kicker fish which put them over the edge at Metropolis. Jeff and Chris were fishing 7 miles up river in 32-34 feet of water using skip jack. The team caught over 20 fish for the day and earned $2,500.00 for first place in the event. Keep in mind teams are only allowed to weigh in their top 5 fish for the day.

In second place was Joshua and Ricky West of Bardwell, Kentucky with a weight of 134.05 pounds and earning $1,100.00. Joshua and Ricky were fishing 5 miles down stream in 35-40 feet of water using skip jack.

Third place went to the well known Paragould, Arkansas team of Daryl and Jason Masingale weighing in 122.85 pounds and earning $700.00. Daryl and Jason were fishing between the I-24 and Brookport bridge in 30-50 feet of water using skip jack to catch 15 fish on the day.

Mt. Vernon, Indiana’s Wayne and Jennifer King took fourth place with a weight of 117.95 pounds and earning $500.00. Wayne and Jennifer fished up river from the weigh in site in 15-30 feet of water using skip jack and mooneye to catch over 30 fish for the day.

Fifth place and big fish of the event went to the Cunningham, Kentucky team of Tim and Eric Aldridge with a weight of 117.5 pound with their big fish of the event weighing 54.70 pounds. The team earned $300.00 for fifth place and an additional $500.00 for big fish of the event. Tim and Eric were fishing south of Metropolis in 50-60 feet of water using skip jack and mooneye to catch 25 fish for the day.

Cabela’s King Kat Kids Free Fishing Rodeo

Cabela’s King Kat Kids Rodeo was a great success with 40 children in attendance. Each child was signed up for the chance to win 1 of 6 $2,000.00 schlorships to be drawn for in October.
