Jackson, MS- Dave Godwin, the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks’ (MDWFP) Small Game Program Coordinator, received the National Bobwhite Technical Committee (NBTC) annual award. Godwin was presented the award August 10 at NBTC’s annual meeting in Tallahassee, Florida. The NBTC is a group of wildlife professionals from throughout the bobwhite quail range that provide leadership and technical guidance for the National Bobwhite Conservation Initiative (www.bringbackbobwhites.org).
“I am truly honored to receive this award from my peers,” said Godwin. “It has been a true honor to serve the National Bobwhite Technical Committee and to work on bobwhite conservation issues within the State of Mississippi. The long-term, range-wide decline of bobwhite quail is one of the greatest conservation challenges of our time. I accept this award on behalf of all of those who have worked to reverse the decline of quail in Mississippi.”
Godwin was selected for the award based on his outstanding service to quail conservation in Mississippi and beyond. The NBTC recognized his contributions to public and private land quail management, research, and development of multiple MDWFP programs. He has been an active member of the NBTC since its development in 1995, including previous service as steering committee chair during a critical juncture in the group’s history. MDWFP offers its congratulations to Godwin, who joins a select group of recipients during the last decade of NBTC activities.
