Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Results for the $10,000 Super Event in Dubuque, Iowa

This past Saturday August 27th the Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Trail hit the waters of the Mississippi River at Dubuque, Iowa. In the event nearly 120 top anglers from several different states were competing not only for cash and prizes, but the opportunity to qualify for the 2011 Cabela’s King Kat Classic. This year’s Cabela’s King Kat Classic will be held on the Mississippi River at Burlington, Iowa October 27-28-29, 2011.

 

Results for the Top 5 Teams

  • Taking first place was the team of Jerry Cline I of New Berlin, Illinois and Joe Ludtke of Springfield, Illinois with a total weight of 38.75 pounds and earning $4,000.00. Jerry and Joe, the current leaders in the Rippin Lips “Anglers Of The Year” race and also a Monster Rods and Tanglin With Catfish sponsored team showed no signs of letting go of their top spot with this win at Dubuque. With the next event coming up September 10th on the Ohio River at Henderson, Kentucky time will tell if the team will hold their own and become the Rippin Lips Anglers of the Year and possibly the National Champions at the Cabela’s King Kat Classic.
  • In second place was the team of Jason Burgus of Winfield, Iowa and Josh Mayes of Montrose, Iowa weighing in 37.85 pounds and earning $2,000.00 in a close race for first place. Jason and Josh were fishing at the top of the Bellevue Dam using shad for bait to catch 20-25 fish for the day in 20-30 feet of water. Each team is allowed to weigh in their top 5 fish at the end of the day. The key to taking second place was the 15.5 pound flathead which was big fish of the event earning them an additional $500.00.
  • Third place went to Jerry Cline II of Laomi, Illinois and Mark Farrow of Meridosia, Illinois with 36.65 pounds and earning $1,200.00. Jerry and Mark were fishing in the Dubuque pool in 10-30 feet of water using cut shad as bait to catch 12 to 15 fish for the day.
  • Rodney Blackwell of Davenport, Iowa and Stan Bennett of Kingston, Illinois took fourth place with a weight of 35.85 pounds and earning $800.00. Rodney and Stan were fishing the Bellevue dam using cut shad in 15-20 feet of water to catch 15 fish for the day.
  • Fifth place was a tie between the teams of Walter McDaniels of Meridosia, Illinois, Buddy Wiesenberger of Quincy, Illinois and the team of Anthony Kron of Hills, Iowa, Gary Kron of Ainsworth, Iowa with each team weighing in 33.65 pounds and each team earning $500.00. Walter and Buddy were fishing below the Bellevue Dam in 10-20 feet of water using shad as bait. Anthony and Gary above the dam near Mud Lake in 15-20 feet of water using shad guts as bait to catch 25 fish for the day.

“This was our first time making a tour stop in Dubuque, Iowa and we certainly hope to come back again, said Tournament Director Tanner Tabor. ” Nearly 120 anglers from 5 states took to the waters of the Mighty Mississippi trying to earn their share of the $10,000.00 in cash and prizes given out, but also the right to earn a spot in the 2011 Cabela’s King Kat Classic held this year in Burlington, Iowa on Oct., 27-29. “It was a great weekend, teams brought their “A” game. There were only a handful of teams that didn’t weigh-in.” Nearly 300 spectators came to the Mystique Casino to watch the weigh-in and witnessed a very close finish. We want to thank the Dubuque Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Mystique Casino for making this event possible, and a huge success!
