Flight 93 National Memorial in Pennsylvania is this Week’s National Park Getaway

Shanksville, Pa. – Preserved on 2,200 acres surrounding the 2001 crash site, Flight 93 National Memorial remembers the lives and honors the heroism, courage and enduring sacrifice of the 40 passengers and crew who, on September 11, 2001, thwarted a planned attack on our nation’s capital. This week, the National Park Getaway visits this place of comfort, hope and inspiration.

Once a coal mine, the memorial grounds provide a solemn and tranquil setting where visitors can reflect on the selfless actions of the Flight 93 passengers and crew who dared to fight back. More than a million people from around the world have traveled to the site, and countless volunteers and local residents have committed to honoring the passengers and crew and caring for their final resting place.

This weekend, September 10-11, 2011, the Flight 93 National Memorial will be dedicated and the 10th anniversary of the September 11 attacks observed. The National Park Service invites you to be part of this solemn and historic observance.
