The Extreme Huntress 2012 Contest Celebrates Women and Hunting

September 8, 2011 Kalispell, Mont.-  Women hunters everywhere are invited to enter the Extreme Huntress 2012 Contest. The contest, now in it’s third year, will send one lucky winner to the Omay Concession in Zimbabwe, Africa for an all expenses paid, fully outfitted expedition to hunt Cape buffalo with Martin Pieters Safaris. The winner will be named Extreme Huntress 2012 and the hunt will be filmed for an episode of Eye of the Hunter™ airing Sundays at 7am EST on NBC Sports starting in August 2012.

Extreme Huntress contest entries are only accepted for one more month, through Saturday October 1, 2011. Applicants must write a short essay, maximum 500 words, on why they think they are the most hardcore woman huntress in the world. Entries should be mailed to extremehuntress@tahoefilms.com, and must include two low resolution jpg photos of the applicant hunting.

Contest organizer Tom Opre, owner of Tahoe Films, Ltd., pointed out that what makes a women hunter “the most hardcore huntress,” is intentionally left open for interpretation. It’s not necessarily about bagging the biggest trophy animal. Every woman has a different story and they are motivated to hunt for different reasons. The Extreme Huntress Contest celebrates women hunters and their stories. And, most importantly, it reinforces that women can be just as hardcore in the field as their male counterparts.

In 2006, 12.9 million families in the U.S. were headed by a single parent, 80% of which were headed by a single mother. If we are to successfully pass on the hunting heritage to our youth, it’s so important to get women involved in hunting. The Extreme Huntress 2012 will receive national press attention and set a positive role model for our next generation of hunter conservationists.

A celebrity panel of judges will score the entries. The top ten scoring entries will be posted on tahoefilms.com for a public vote that will run from November 1, 2011 through January 1, 2012. The winner will be introduced at the SHOT Show in Las Vegas in January 2012.

Viewers can watch the Extreme Huntress 2010, Rebecca Francis, hunt mountain goats in British Columbia on Thursday September 8th at 2 pm EST on Eye of the Hunter™ airing on Versus. Then watch Extreme Huntress 2011, Angie Tennison, hunt Himalayan tahr in New Zealand, at 2pm EST on Thursday September 22nd, also on Versus.

The Winner Will Hunt Cape Buffalo in Zimbabwe and be Filmed for an Upcoming Episode of Eye of the Hunter™ Airing on NBC Sports.
