Destin, Florida to Host Fishing Rodeo

   09.12.11

October is just around the corner.

For those of you who have this month earmarked for things that revolve around Halloween, I would plant another seed of opportunity. This month is a great one to get in the last hoorah of fishing before the weather turns cold. For the whole month, Destin, Florida has the best opportunity for those who dont tournament fish, to become eligible for a tournament, of sorts. The whole family can get in on this one. All you need to do is book a trip on a charter boat.

Come down to Destin and automatically get entered into the rodeo by booking a fishing trip. Most all of the 450+ boats in this fleet enter into this sixty three year tradition. Those who book a trip are in the mix! If one of the fish you catch is seemingly going to rank among the top in weight class for that particular species, you back into the rodeo dock and get your fish weighed. Weighmaster Bruce Cheaves has been the M.C. for as long as I can remember. He takes your fish, weighs it and puts you among the ranks. Your name and fish is listed and posted on the board and at the end of the day, week, month or overall, you, as the angler, get what your category has to offer.  Every child gets recognized ,and a prize, for bringing all fish to the dock. That’s it! Only the angler gets the prize. Every day of the month people get to tournament fish like the pros do.

This event draws thousands of people and provides many with a means to showcase their catches. So if your looking for something to fill some time between the Thanksgiving and Halloween holidays, I would urge you to come see us. Destin Fishing Rodeo, Google it, Facebook it, or call the Destin Area Chamber of Commerce for details. You can also get more info by calling 850-509-2544.
