Lee Wins Walmart Bass Fishing League Volunteer Division on Lake Cherokee
Boater Joe Lee of Knoxville, Tenn., caught a two-day total of 10 bass weighing 23 pounds, 9 ounces Sept. 17-18 to win $4,604 in the Walmart BFL Volunteer Division tournament on Lake Cherokee.  Lee was using a Strike King crankbait while fishing in creek channels.

  •  5th:     Bill Humbard, New Market, Tenn., eight bass, 20-4, $921
  • 6th:     Kevin Powers, Unicoi, Tenn., eight bass, 19-7, $844
  • 7th:     Mike Johnson, Gray, Tenn., eight bass, 19-1, $767
  • 8th:     Tim Smiley, White Pine, Tenn., six bass, 12-6, $691 + $1,000 Evinrude bonus
  •  9th:     James Nuckols Jr., Rockwood, Tenn., five bass, 12-5, $614
  • 10th:   Burton Bryan, Sevierville, Tenn., six bass, 11-4, $537
Bobby Drinnon of Rogersville, Tenn., caught a two-day total of four bass weighing 10 pounds, 10 ounces Sept. 17-18 to win $2,302 in the Co-angler Division.  Drinnon also fished in creek channels, but used a jig to catch his bass.

  • 6th:     Gregory Vinsant, LaFollette, Tenn., five bass, 7-10, $422
  • 7th:     Benjamin Pendley, Knoxville, Tenn., three bass, 7-6, $384
  • 8th:     Ron Nelson, Kodak, Tenn., four bass, 7-1, $345
  • 9th:     John Coker, Knoxville, Tenn., two bass, 5-0, $307
  • 10th:   Jimmy Flanagan, Kingston, Tenn., two bass, 4-9, $269
 The top 40 boaters and 40 co-anglers based on point standings will qualify for the Oct. 13-15 Regional Championship on Smith Mountain Lake in Huddleston, Va. Boaters will compete for a top award of a Ranger 198VX with a 200-horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard and a Chevy pick-up, while co-anglers will fish for a new Ranger 198V
