National Hunting and Fishing Day Celebrates Another Successful Year

Columbia, S.C. September 28, 2011 – This past weekend National Hunting and Fishing Day was celebrated by thousands of outdoorsmen everywhere. Events took place around the country that helped educate attendees about the importance of conserving our hunting and fishing heritage.

As part of the festivities, President Barack Obama issued a proclamation declaring September 24, 2011 as a day for Americans to observe the day, which was created by Congress to conserve the legacy of our past and is the responsibility of all Americans.

In his proclamation President Obama called all Americans of every age to take on the task of sharing and protecting the great outdoors.

“NHF Day was a tremendous success,” said Misty Mitchell, Director of Conservation Programs Wonders of Wildlife. “We would like to thank President Obama for recognizing the importance and continued support for our great heritage.”

Every U.S. President from Richard Nixon through Barack Obama has issued official proclamations of support for the annual commemoration, now recognized as one of the most effective grassroots campaigns ever undertaken to promote traditional outdoor sports.

Sponsors for NHF Day 2011 included: Wonders of Wildlife, NSSF, Bass Pro Shops, Smith & Wesson, Sportsman’s Channel, Realtree, Cabela’s, GunBroker.com, Yamaha, Academy Sports + Outdoors, Izaak Walton League of America, Pope and Young Club and Fresh Air Educators.
