Gavins Point Tailwaters in Nebraska Open to Bank Fishing, Boating Restricted

Lincoln, Neb. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has re-opened the Gavins Point Dam tailwaters to bank fishing, effective immediately, just in time for the Oct. 1 opener of the Nebraska paddlefish snagging season.
Bank access had been restricted this summer during high-water releases from the dam, but releases have decreased and the area is now open to fishing. Anglers should use caution, as some of the rocks near the water may be slippery until algae that grow on them have a chance to dry.
Tailwater boat ramps on both sides of the river are open but boat access for tailwater anglers remains restricted by electronic signs and temporary buoys until the Corps can install a buoy line below the gates. Until further notice, boat anglers will not be allowed upstream of a line extending from a sign near the handicapped-accessible fishing pier in the Nebraska Tailwaters Recreation Area to a sign upstream on the north bank. Boaters must be aware and look for the signs and temporary buoys.
The snagging season is Oct. 1-31.
