Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Results for $10,000 Super Event on Alabama’s Wheeler Lake

This past Saturday October 1st  the Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Trail hit the waters of Wheeler Lake at Ingalls Harbor in Decatur, Alabama. In the event 76 of the top anglers from 12 different states were competing not only for the $10,000.00 in cash and prizes, but the opportunity to qualify for the 2011 Cabela’s King Kat Classic. This year’s Cabela’s King Kat Classic will be held on the Mississippi River at  Burlington, Iowa October 27-28-29, 2011.

This was the final event leading up to the classic with all of the anglers working hard to get a piece of the $10,000 payback and make the final list that will be attending the classic.

Results for the Top 5 Teams

Continuing with their winning streak Daryl and Jason Masingale from Paragould, Arkansas took another first place victory weighing in 148.2 pounds and earning $4,500.00. Daryl and Jason were fishing 2 miles above the dam using skipjack in 35-50 feet of water to catch a total of 10 fish for the day including 2 that were over 34 inches.  With the Alabama Trophy Fish law in play teams could only bring 2 fish over 34 inches to the scale. Daryl and Jason said they had to cull 6 over 34 inches, noting that three of those were 49, 54, and 62 pounds. He also praised the law as it will protect these trophy fish and help keep Wheeler Lake one of the premier trophy catfish lake in the country for many years to come. Their finish today gave them 395 points (2nd place average finish) crowning them the 2011 Rippin Lips “Anglers Of The Year” Points Champions.
