Plano Offers Tribute to Fallen Angler Jose Wejebe

Plano Molding Co. officials join the many in the fishing industry mourning the loss of celebrity angler Jose Wejebe, who was killed Friday afternoon when a plane he was piloting crashed shortly after takeoff from Florida’s Everglade Airpark.

Wejebe, 54, was host of the popular Spanish Fly television fishing show that brought Wejebe’s infectious smile, passion for fishing and zest for life into the homes of millions of viewers. First airing in 1995, Spanish Fly was originally broadcast on ESPN2 and more recently on the Outdoor Channel.

“Jose’s Plano family is deeply saddened by this loss,” said Bryan Emrich, vice president of marketing. “Jose was an amazing guy, and someone that just made you feel good about life every time you talked to him. Jose will be deeply missed both as a friend and professional colleague.”

In honor of Jose Wejebe and his family, Plano has launched a memorial on its Facebook page. All fans may pay tribute to Jose in their own words by posting a comment, sharing a fond memory or offering their condolences. The special memorial can be found at www.facebook.com/PlanoOutdoors, then by clicking on the photo of Jose Wejebe.

“Jose has touched many lives through his fishing shows, and we want his family to realize just how much he was loved,” Emrich said. “Jose was a good friend of Plano and many in the entire fishing community around the world. We will all miss him greatly.”
