West Virginia State Parks Participating in Pocahontas County May Geocache Challenge

   04.26.12

West Virginia state parks in Pocahontas County are participating in the Nature’s Mountain Playground Geocache Challenge, which runs May 1 through May 31, 2012.  The challenge is for geocachers to locate a series of 12 caches across the county. Each cache holds a clue to the final answer. By completing the entire challenge and decoding the word puzzle, the correct answer will allow geocachers to register for a chance to win a vacation giveaway package.

The first to complete the challenge will receive a First Finder custom designed compass provided by Presidio Studios. The first 50 geocachers who complete the challenge will receive the Nature’s Mountain Playground Geocache Challenge Coin.

During the last week of April, coordinates for the 12 sites will be posted on Geocaching.com. To easily find the 12 cache coordinates, search keyword “Nature’s Mountain Playground.”  After completing the challenge, geocachers should present the correct word puzzle answer at the Pocahontas County Convention & Visitors Bureau office in Marlinton to register for the grand prize vacation package drawing and claim a commemorative coin.

State parks and forests located in Pocahontas County include Cass Scenic Railroad, Droop Mountain Battlefield, Beartown, and Watoga state parks; Calvin Price and Seneca state forests, and much of the Greenbrier River Trail.

Geocachers looking for overnight accommodations will not need coordinates to find company house rentals at Cass Scenic Railroad or cabins at Watoga State Park or Seneca State Forest. Camping is available at Watoga and Calvin Price and Seneca state forests and at designated areas on the Greenbrier River Trail.  For West Virginia State Park information, visit www.wvstateparks.com.  To learn more about the May 1-31 Nature’s Mountain Playgound Geocache Challenge, visit www.pocahontascountywv.com/geocaching.aspx.
