Registration Opens for Northeast Regional Field Target Championship at Crosman

The Northeast Regional Field Target Championship (NRFTC) hosted by Crosman, is back for its third year and registration is now open. The event, on July 6-8, will be held on the campus of Crosman Corporation in Bloomfield, New York.
According to Crosman Shooting Services Manager, Mark DeBoard, having the event on the Crosman campus allows participants and visitors to do more than compete. “This is a unique event for field target competition, since it’s held right here at Crosman. So in addition to a shooting competition, we have a factory tour, product demos and plenty of staff to answer questions or simply talk airguns,” he said. “Of course, since this event is designed to attract more people to field target competition, we try to challenge national competitors, while providing a forgiving enough experience for shooters new to competition,” said DeBoard.
The field target course involves two rounds of 60 shots each, for a total of 120 shots spread across 30 lanes. Participants shoot their first round on 15 lanes Saturday morning. The second round is Sunday morning. Friday includes a full day of sighting in, socializing, the factory tour and the exciting Quigley Bucket Challenge. For a few hours on Friday afternoon, the Crosman Company Store will be open to all.
The Quigley Bucket Challenge is based on a stunt in the Tom Selleck film Quigley Down Under, where Selleck’s character proves his shooting ability by hitting a bucket at an estimated 550 yards with his Sharps rifle. On Friday afternoon, shooters take aim at a 1.75″ bucket placed at 55 yards, a distance proportional to the stunt. A Benjamin 90 cubic inch PCP Charging System, capable of providing up to 30 PCP airgun fills, will be awarded to the winner of the Quigley Bucket Challenge, provided the shooter uses the Crosman-provided Challenger air rifle to compete. The field target pistol match will take place Saturday afternoon.
The NRFTC attracts ranked competitors from across the country, but amateurs are encouraged to participate. “So,” says DeBoard, “if you’re just ‘kicking the tires’ of field target competition, there is a single day option just right for you. Everyone is welcome to participate in this shooting competition and prizes are awarded for winners in their class. At last year’s shoot, we had so many door prizes that almost no one went home empty handed,” said DeBoard.
The match fee is $50 per shooter and includes lunch on Saturday and Sunday. After June 1, the fee increases to $60. The pistol match and Quigley Bucket Challenge are free to rifle match competitors and $25 for those shooting pistol only. Single day entries are $25. Bringing a non-competing guest on Saturday? For $10 we’ll feed them lunch too.
