West Virginia’s Canaan Valley State Park is a Cool Setting for a Hot Summer

Summer vacation season begins Memorial Day weekend and Canaan Valley State Park is ready. The elevation of the Canaan Valley Plateau makes it a cool place to spend the hot summer days. The park has several opportunities for vacation travel with extras.

Memorial Weekend Savings

Memorial Day Weekend, May 25-28, has a $49 per person/per night rate in the lodge. The rate includes nightly lodging, daily breakfast, unlimited mini-golf rounds, trail guide, outdoor pool, and Beech Club usage and includes all taxes and fees. Children ages 12 and younger stay free and receive the same inclusions when sharing the room with parents (limit one child per paying adult).

Stay Two Nights for One Price

Canaan’s 2-, 3- and 4-bedroom cabins are situated within the tree-lined grounds, making the cool atmosphere even cooler. “Through June 30, there is a special that allows guests to stay the first night at standard rate and the second night rental is free,” according to Lisa Ratliff, resort spokeswoman. Guests receive use of the Beech Club while staying at Canaan Valley Resort. This two night stay is available any two consecutive nights except June 22-23 or 25-27, 2012.

Nelson Rocks Partners with Canaan Valley

Canaan Valley has partnered with nearby Nelson Rocks Preserve which offers canopy tours, a zip-line adventure for outdoor enthusiasts through a diverse hardwood forest. Nearly a mile of zip lines ranging from 150-680 feet in length and up to 80 feet from the forest floor are part of the network of 12 zip and three sky bridges that ends in a 40-foot rappel at Nelson Rocks. The overnight package at Canaan Valley includes two nights’ lodging, two days’ breakfast, one canopy tour, outdoor pool use, unlimited mini-golf, hiking and Beech Club use. The cost is $184 per person based on double occupancy and includes taxes, fees and gratuities. Reservations are required. Nelson Rocks is approximately a one-hour drive from Canaan Valley.

Canaan Valley Resort State Park is a four-season destination. Fifteen miles long by three miles wide, Canaan Valley is the highest mountain valley east of the Rocky Mountains, with a base elevation of 3,100 feet. Canaan Valley Resort is nestled on a plateau overlooking the valley, offering sweeping views of the surrounding peaks.
