Georgia Archery Students Compete at Record-Setting National Tournament

Two Georgia elementary school archery teams finished in the top 10 in the nation at the 2012 National Archery in the Schools Tournament in Louisville, Kentucky.
More than 7,800 student archers from NASP schools in 35 states shot at the Louisville Expo Center. The 2012 NASP National tournament was officially certified by the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest archery tournament in the world.
Winning Schools and Students
Twelve Georgia teams competed after qualifying at the NASP Georgia State Tournament held this past March in Perry.
Scoring highlights from the National Tournament are:
- Woodlawn Elementary (Chatsworth), the defending national champions in the elementary division, placed third overall with a score of 3,243. Woodlawn finished just 24 points out of first place.
- Bay Creek Elementary (Loganville) finished eighth in the elementary division with a team total of 3,193.
- Bagley Middle School (Chatsworth) fired a team score of 3,294, the highest score of any team from Georgia, to finish 13th in the middle school division.
- Bagley Middle School’s Haley Bagley shot a 288 and was ranked as the 17th overall female shooter out of more than 3,200 shooters.
- Dodge County High School’s Joshua Peterson shot a 288 to finish as the 75th best male shooter from more than 4,600 competitors.
- Lee County Elementary’s Trellis Whaley shot a 278, taking first place among 4th grade female shooters and Lake Park (in Albany) Elementary’s Kate Douglas finished fifth among 4th grade females with a score of 271.
- Woodlawn’s Alyssa Lavianna placed third in 5th grade female division with a 278.
- Bay Creek Elementary’s Dylan Thompson’s score of 287 was 12th best in the elementary male division.
Other top individual shooters from Georgia were: Morgan County Middle School’s Jackson Mitchell (285, 130th overall male); Bagley Middle’s Jennings Hunter (284, 143rd overall male); Bay Creek’s Danny McIntyre (284, 164th overall male); Bagley Middle’s Morgan Ray (282, 119th overall female).
