OutdoorHub 05.24.12
Youth from southeast Colorado are getting a chance to experience an amazing weekend of free outdoor learning at Two Buttes State Wildlife Area. The “Two Buttes Outdoor Adventure” will run from Friday, June 8 at noon until Sunday, June 10 at 5 p.m. Outdoor skills and educational workshops will be offered throughout the weekend.
The weekend slate of activities includes opportunities to learn archery skills and how to safely shoot rifles, shotguns and muzzleloaders. Workshops on big game hunting, game-bird hunting, small game hunting, outdoor survival and hunter education will be offered. Participants will also have an opportunity to take the hunter education test and earn their hunter ed certification.
All youth participating must be accompanied by an adult but the whole family is welcome to come along and enjoy the Outdoor Adventure. A camping area will be set up and Colorado Parks and Wildlife staff and volunteers will be providing meals for registered participants throughout the weekend.
As you can imagine, this once-a-year event fills up quickly and the number of participants is limited. To reserve a spot for the weekend, contact Todd Marriott, District Wildlife Manager at 719-340-0279.
The Two Buttes State Wildlife Area is located on the border of Baca and Prowers counties in the southeastern corner of Colorado.
