Swarovski Optik North America Announces 2012 “Digiscoper of the Year” Photography Contest

SWAROVSKI OPTIK NORTH AMERICA, a subsidiary of the Austrian-based company, announces their 7th annual “Digiscoper of the Year” photography contest. The aim of the competition is to raise the profile of digiscoping and to demonstrate the excellent photos this photographic technique can produce. The “Digiscoper of the Year” competition allows fans of digiscoping to showcase their photos and enter in the chance to win a complete set of SWAROVSKI OPTIK digiscoping equipment.

Starting on June 1st, participants will be able to upload their own digiscopic photos to the website www.digiscoperoftheyear.com, where registered visitors and participants may also view all the entries and create their own personal favorites list. An international jury will select the photos and award the prizes. There will also be a public vote in October, after the contests closing date; all registered users can choose their personal top 10. The combined results from the public will then be counted as one jury vote in the final judging. The top twenty photos will be published with the name of the photographer on the SWAROVSKI OPTIK “Digiscoper of the Year” homepage. The 1st place winner of the contest will receive a complete set of SWAROVSKI OPTIK digiscoping equipment, including a spotting scope, eyepiece, adapter, telescope rail, and tripod. The 2nd prize winner will receive a pair of SWAROVSKI OPTIK EL 50 SWAROVISION binoculars, and 3rd prize will receive a pair of SWAROVSKI OPTIK EL 32 SWAROVISION binoculars.

“Digiscopers have never had so many choices available to them,” said Clay Taylor, Naturalist Market Manager of SWAROVSKI OPTIK NORTH AMERICA, and one of the international judges for the 2012 “Digiscoper of the Year” contest. “There are more quality spotting scopes and adapters on the market, digiscopers can choose between Point & Shoot, D-SLR, and Mirrorless System cameras, and now there are cell phone cameras that take remarkable digiscoped shots! A sharp, well-focused subject is still important, but so are composition and a sense of drama or wonder about the subject in the natural world. It is no coincidence that the recent winners have been very dynamic photos. I cannot wait to see the 2012 entries for the “Digiscoper of the Year”.”

The contest will begin on June 1, 2012 and run through till September 30, 2012. Detailed competition terms and conditions for taking part in, and other information about the competition are available at www.digiscoperoftheyear.com.
