Wildlife Forever celebrates National Fishing and Boating Week but warns not to pick up “aquatic hitchhikers” while recreating on America’s great rivers and lakes.

This week as boaters and anglers hit America’s waters, Wildlife Forever and the Threat Campaign partnership asks that everyone take extra precaution to Stop Aquatic Hitchhikers! Clean, Drain, Dry all trailers and equipment that come in contact with the water.

Invasive Species are the greatest conservation threat to fishing and boating. Fouling boat motors, closing public access, and compromising fish and fishing quality; invasives weaken the U.S. economy and limit opportunity for youth to become engaged in the outdoors.

“Take a kid fishing, fire up the boat and enjoy the day but remember, once in a lake, invasive species can last a lifetime. Take a minute to ensure your gear is clean before you leave the access,” said Pat Conzemius Program Manager of Wildlife Forever.

Fishing and boating are vital to our economy and outdoor heritage. Fostering growth and outdoor exploration in youth, National Fishing and Boating Week celebrates America’s abundant aquatic natural resources.
