Montana FWP Seeks Comment on Proposed Improvements at River Junction FAS

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) is seeking public comment on proposed site improvements at River Junction Fishing Access Site (FAS) on the Blackfoot River near Ovando.
The proposal calls for creating designated parking areas with up to twelve parking spaces, improving the existing gravel boat ramp and relocating and potentially expanding the campground area. Day-use and campground areas would be separated, and three additional campsites could be added to the existing seven.
“We think these proposed improvements will help to better accommodate existing public use of the site and protect the riverbank and surrounding lands by directing parking, camping and boat launching to designated areas,” says Chet Crowser, FAS Manager for FWP.
If approved, FWP plans to have the proposed work done in the fall of 2012 during low water flows. FWP would allow as much public access as possible to anglers, floaters, and campers during construction.
A draft environmental assessment has been prepared for this proposal. Find the document online at fwp.mt.gov under “Public Notices.” Or, request it by mail from Region 2 FWP, 3201 Spurgin Rd., Missoula 59804; phone 406-542-5500; email shrose@mt.gov.
Comments can be submitted online at fwp.mt.gov under “Public Notices,” or should be directed to Chet Crowser by: mailing to the address above, phoning 406-542-5562, or emailing ccrowser@mt.gov. Comments must be received by FWP no later than 5 p.m. on July 6, 2012.
