Archers Against Cancer – Shoot for the Cure

Everyone has been touched by someone with cancer. Volunteers like Terry and Michelle French founders of Archers Against Cancer along with members of the Windsor Sportsmen Archery Club, Kingsville Wildgoose Archery Club, Lambton-Kent Archers make a difference. Joined by numerous close friends, volunteers and family they organized the second annual 3D archery shoot for the cure against cancer on June “9th -10th” 2012 at 4688 Kent Line near Dresden.

This year’s course involved 54 archers across SW Ontario from Windsor to London of all ages shooting at forty 3D targets placed at unknown distances. Challenging archery shots in this wandering wooded trail on near perfect weather conditions were exactly what the organizers asked for. Final numbers weren’t in but close to $5000 was raised for the Canadian Cancer Society continued fight against cancer during the two day event. Free camping was available for anyone shooting both days.

Many archers purchased and wore their Archers Against Cancer shirts from Diamond Sports Wear in Chatham that were donated by Direct Masonry and Draw-Ohn Enterprises. Food was donated by Food Basics/Dempsters (Chatham), SuperStore (Leamington), Windsor Sportsmen Club, Arctic Glacier Ice (Ice and deep freeze)  Tom’s Discount Rental (Generator), and Blenheim Chrysler.

Two prize tables provided numbered items drawn about every twenty minutes and posted with the archers name to pick up. Prize donated from the Archers Nook, Cineplex, Dover Rod & Gun, G&K Archery, Atkins Archery, Goodlife Fitness, Lambton-Kent Archers, Trumar Photography, Mark’s Work Wearhouse, McDonalds, Sears Chatham, Rob Vanacker and Ripple Outdoors were much appreciated by all the participants.

Special thanks to Leigh Johnson for allowing the Archers Against Cancer Team and all the archers to use his land! For information or to donate please contact [email protected]. Next year’s Archers Against Cancer event takes place June 8-9 2013.
