American Sportfishing Association Elects Board of Directors Members

Six members of the American Sportfishing Association’s (ASA) board of directors were elected or re-elected to fill three regional seats and three at-large seats. Their terms begin October 1, 2012, and they will serve two-year terms. ASA’s board members may serve three, consecutive two-year terms.

Regional seats went to Kirk Immens, president, Sportco Marketing, Worthington, Ohio (re-elected), who will serve the Great Lakes Region; Chris Megan, publisher, On The Water, LLC, E. Fallmouth, Mass. who will represent the Northeast Region; and Donn Schaible, president, Wright & McGill, Co., Denver, Colo., who will serve the Inter-Mountain Region.

At-Large seats went to Peter Foley, president, Boone Bait Company, Winter Park, Fla., (re-elected); Scott Frnka, vice president of merchandising, General Outdoors Division, Cabela’s, Sidney, Neb. (re-elected); and Dave Pfeiffer, president, Shimano American Corp., Irvine, Calif.

“The experience and perspectives that these members bring to the board of directors is unmatched and will serve the industry well,” said ASA President and CEO Mike Nussman. “I thank them for their commitment and look forward to working with them to advance the association and the sportfishing industry.”

Peter Foley, current board Treasurer and Finance Committee chairman, was re-elected to his serve his third, two-year term. Foley plans to work to provide healthy fishing resources for future generations and to continue working with the Finance Committee to maintain the association’s fiscally sound ways. Scott Frnka was re-elected to serve his second, two-year term, and is looking forward to developing new ways that retail companies can work with anglers to promote a unified voice to fight the issues that threaten to erode the health of the sportfishing industry. Kirk Immens, who was re-elected to his second, two-year term, is also a member of the Membership committee. Immens is dedicated to fight no-fishing zones and the Asian carp issue that is threatening the Great Lakes and the industry.

Dave Pfeiffer returns to the board after serving on the board from 2002-2008 including as Chairman from 2006-2007. Pfeiffer is looking forward to helping to expand the association’s efforts regarding KeepAmericaFishing, the industry’s trade show and government affairs efforts at both the state and federal levels. Chris Megan was elected to his first, two-year term on ASA’s board of directors and is the current Chairman of the Data and Statistics Committee and is a member of the Communications committee. Megan looks to bring together independent voices from across the sportfishing industry to make a strong association by working with media outlets to amplify ASA’s message. Donn Schaible, who succeeded John Jilling as president of Wright & McGill last year, was elected to serve his first, two-year term. Schaible looks to provide the perspective of a manufacturer to the association and develop new and innovative solutions to industry issues.

(Treasurer); Jeff Pontius, ZEBCO Brands (Immediate Past Chairman); Thom Dammrich, National Marine Manufacturers Association; Tom Fote, Jersey Coast Anglers Association; Scott Frnka, Cabela’s; John Jilling, Wright & McGill Company; Kirk Immens, Sportco Marketing, Inc.; Martin MacDonald, Bass Pro Shops; Dave Pfeiffer, Shimano American Corporation; Dick Pool, Pro-Troll Fishing Products; Paul Schluter, St. Croix Rods; Aledia Hunt Tush, CB’s Saltwater Outfitters; Nick Wiley, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission; and Gary Zurn, Big Rock Sports, LLC. Ex-officio members are: John Doerr, Pure Fishing; Ken Hammond, The Hammond Group; and K. C. Walsh, Simms Fishing Products.
