Chalmette, Louisiana Set to Host 2012 IFA Championship Events

Two of the fastest-growing inshore fishing tournaments will stage their 2012 championship events in Chalmette, La. The IFA Redfish Tour Presented by Cabela’s and the IFA Kayak Fishing Tour Presented by Hobie Fishing arrive in Louisiana this October and November.

The IFA Redfish Tour Championship will run October 26-27 (Friday and Saturday), with a pre-tournament captains meeting on Thursday, October 25. One week later, competitors in the IFA Kayak Fishing Tour Championship will begin their championship weekend with a captains meeting on Thursday, November 1, with competition to take place November 2-3. The host site for the events will be announced at a later date.

“We are honored to have the best inshore fishing tournament return to our legendary waters for the championship this year,” said David E. Peralta, president of St. Bernard Parish Government. “This is another opportunity to highlight the natural resources of the St. Bernard Parish and the great members of the community.”

IFA Redfish Tour teams who fish at least two regular-season events and one of the regional events will qualify to compete in the no entry fee championship. Teams that are unable to compete in both regular-season events in their division can make up the event in another division and still qualify for the championship.

IFA Redfish Tour teams that fish two regular-season events in one division and at least one regional event will be eligible to win the Divisional Team of the Year. Divisional Teams of the Year will receive one set of entry fees paid for one division in 2013 with the winners of each division competing head to head in the championship event for the Overall Team of the Year. The Overall Team of the Year will receive a check from Cabela’s for $5,000 for the Redfish Tour.

All IFA Kayak Tour anglers who fish a minimum of two regular-season events and at least one of the regional events will qualify to compete in the no entry fee kayak championship. The kayak championship event will be a two-day event.

Kayak anglers who fish in two regular-season events in one division and one regional event will be eligible for the Divisional Angler of the Year. Divisional winners will receive one set of entry fees paid for one division in 2013. The Divisional Anglers of the Year will face off in the championship for the title of Overall Angler of the Year and a $1,000 prize for the Kayak Tour.

“Our mission at the IFA is to give anglers the opportunity to lucrative payouts of cash and prizes with minimal personal costs,” said Jim Armstrong, president of the IFA. “This championship rewards our anglers for all their hard work throughout the season.”

The winner of the IFA Redfish Tour Championship is guaranteed a new Ranger Banshee Extreme with the opportunity to win contingency prizes from Ranger Boats, Cabela’s, Yamaha, Berkley and others for a total winning package worth over $65,000.
