Fish with Transparent Head Filmed 2,000 Feet Deep

For the first time, a large Pacific barreleye fish or spook fish – complete with transparent head – was caught on film in 2009 by scientists using remotely operated vehicles at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute.

Barreleyes inhabit the depths just below the limit of light penetration and point their tubular eyes upwards to scan the waters above in search of food.
