2012 NRA Pistol Championships Awards Ceremony

Port Clinton, Ohio – The 2012 NRA National Pistol Championships Award Ceremony was held last night at 8:00. With 765 pistol competitors this year, it was an honor for all who received recognition. Almost one hundred awards were handed out last night to competitors for their various achievements during this first phase of the National Championships. Of course, the most important one came at the end: the the 2012 NRA National Pistol Championship Award.

As we reported yesterday afternoon, Brian Zins took his 11th NRA National Pistol Championship title yesterday. He received the National Pistol Champion trophy plaque, a gold plated National Championship medallion, a $500 Visa gift card, and a Nighthawk Custom pistol with Centennial Gold 1911 Coins thanks to Universal Coin and Bullion (pictured below).

We caught up with Brian Zins after he was officially declared Champion to find out how it felt to win his 11th National title.

“It is truly an honor to win,” Zins agreed. “It is actually awesome.”

Zins actually believed he was out of the race after the .45 Caliber slow-fire match. But he wasn’t about to give up and “just knuckled down.” Zins advised future Camp Perry competitors not to be surprised if they don’t shoot their personal best here at Camp Perry.

“This is not the place to do it. Camp Perry’s a different animal … and there’s a mystery about this place and it’s really hard to perform at your best level. All you have to do is do better than everybody else.” And after this week, there is no doubt that Zins achieved that.

Brian Zins does not expect to stop at his 11th Pistol Championship and is looking for number 12 next year. “Absolutely, I want to make it a dozen. That’ll be a nice number,” Zins laughed.
