The Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies (AFWA) is pleased to announce that Jen Mock Schaeffer has been promoted to Government Affairs Director.
Since joining the Association in May 2002, Schaeffer has served as the Multistate Conservation Grant Program Coordinator and most recently as AFWA’s Agriculture Conservation Policy Analyst (Farm Bill). In this role, she has been responsible for coordinating the states’ positions throughout the reauthorization and implementation of the 2008 Farm Bill conservation programs and currently for the 2012 reauthorization. She also has provided staff support for AFWA’s Agricultural Conservation Committee and its 11 working groups.
“Throughout her tenure at the Association, Jen has demonstrated sharp policy analytical abilities through her tireless work on Farm Bill issues,” said Ron Regan, AFWA’s Executive Director. “Under her leadership, I am confident that she will continue to advance sound conservation legislation and policy that complements the goals and missions of the state fish and wildlife agencies.”
As Government Affairs Director, Schaeffer will oversee and direct the legislative work of the Association before the U.S. Congress, and the public policy work of the Association before the federal Executive Branch agencies, including federal public lands and endangered species policy.
“I am honored to be selected for this position and to have this leadership opportunity to advance the needs, interests, role and authority of the Association’s members,” said Schaeffer. I am committed to ensuring fish and wildlife conservation issues are part of our national legislative climate.”
Originally from Texas, Schaeffer graduated from Texas A&M University-Kingsville where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture with a major in Range and Wildlife management and a minor in Biology, and her Master of Science degree in Range and Wildlife Management.
