Monroe Lake is holding a S’mores recipe competition as part of its celebration of National S’mores Day, Aug. 10.
Recipe entries must be received by Aug. 6 and are limited to two entries per person. Each entry must list all ingredients, plus preparation and assembly instructions. Email submissions to jvance@dnr.IN.gov (subject line: S’mores Recipe) or mail them to the Paynetown Activity Center, 4850 S. S.R. 446, Bloomington, IN 47401. Each submission should include the participant’s name, phone number and mailing address.
“We really want people to go beyond the classic combination and think creatively,” said Jill Vance, Monroe Lake’s interpretive naturalist and coordinator of the event.
“One of the best S’mores I ever had wasn’t even sweet,” Vance said. “Instead of marshmallows, we toasted balls of fresh mozzarella over the fire, then squished them between two wheat thins with a dash of pizza sauce.”
Five finalist recipes will be selected by Monroe Lake’s interpretive staff. Visitors will be able to sample those five recipes during the National S’mores Day event at Paynetown State Recreation Area on Aug. 10 and then vote to pick an overall winner.
Monroe Lake is at 4850 South State Road 446, Bloomington, IN 47401.
