Outdoor Retailer Returns with Open Air Demo at Jordanelle Reservoir

WHAT:
Outdoor Retailer’s Open Air Demo (OAD) brings more than 150 outdoor recreation brands and hundreds of specialty retailers to Jordanelle Reservoir for a day of summer sport product previews, hands-on gear testing and outdoor events.
The demos and the events at Open Air Demo will be the media’s only opportunity during Summer Market to capture photos and video of the latest fly fishing, GPS/geocaching, paddlesports, SUP and trail running products in action, in an outdoor setting.

Directions from Salt Lake City
From the Salt Palace Convention Center, get on the I-15 South/I-80 East towards Las Vegas/Cheyenne. Merge onto the I-80 East via exit 304, toward Cheyenne. You will continue on the I-80 East for about 25 miles. Take the US-40 East exit, exit 146 toward Heber/Vernal. Merge onto the US-40 East and continue on this road for about 8 miles. Exit Mayflower, exit 8, and follow signs towards Jordanelle State Park. You will make a left onto S.R 319 and it will take you directly into the park.

Outdoor Retailer is a trade only event, not open to the general public. Media attendees must secure show badges at the Salt Palace Convention Center prior to arriving onsite to cover the demo. The day’s events include:
Casting Competition, sponsored by Redington
8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Helping to reintroduce fly fishing to the outdoor community at large, Redington will host a friendly casting competition throughout the day. Redington staff will be available to assist with casting and demonstrating the “secrets” to getting a high score.
Paddle/Pedal Challenge, presented by H2O Overdrive
9 a.m. – 12 a.m., every half hour
Back by popular demand, the H2O Overdrive Paddle/Pedal Challenge offers an hybrid of standup paddleboarding and mountain bike racing with a 0.5 mile flat water sprint and a 2.5 mile road and trail ride.
“Psycho Joust” presented by O’Neill
11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
O’Neill presents the first “Psycho Joust.” Replacing knights and noble steed with athletes and standup paddleboards, the game is simple – don’t get knocked off by the opponent.
SUPZILLA vs. KING CONG CANOE
Noon
SUP may rule the water, but not without a fight! Can a KING CONG WAR CANOE built by Wenonah beat C4’s SUPZILLA? Attendees will be placing bets (proceeds to support Outdoor Nation and Big City Mountaineers) and rooting for their team during the SHOWDOWN of SUP vs. CANOE.
Surftech and Country Music Superstar Billy Currington
1 p.m. – 2 p.m.
Attendees will have the opportunity to paddle with Grammy-nominated country music sensation Billy Currington and the rest of the Surftech Team during an on water demo and then sit back and enjoy an hour of live music.
Olympic-Style 200 Meter Paddleboard Sprint, presented by H2O Overdrive
1:15 p.m. – 2:15 p.m., every five minutes
Standup paddleboarding is on the fast-track to becoming an Olympic sporting event. See what the hype is about and watch OAD attendees sprint like an Olympian in the 200-meter standup paddleboard race presented by H2O Overdrive.
Patagonia Footwear Fun Run
11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
OAD attendees will run with Patagonia ambassadors and Ultra Running athletes Krissy Moehl and Luke Nelsen, while demoing the new S13 EVERmore trail shoe.
