Pond Hog Hero Casting Competition
Thursday, August 16th at 1:00 PM
Don’t miss out on the annual distance fly-casting competition for all attendees. This fun competition will give all the “big guns” the opportunity to see who can cast a 5-weight fly rod the furthest. The best caster will be awarded bragging rights for the 2012 Pond Hog Hero Caster.Three Divisions: Industry, Retailer and Women’s.
7th Annual Drake Fly Fishing Video Awards
Thursday, August 16th at 7:30 PM
This event is always well attended and lots of fun. Awards will be given for Best Humor, Best Story, Best Fishing and Movie of the Year. The bar opens at 7:30 PM in the Grand Ballroom at the Atlantis Hotel & Casino.
Iron Fly Competition
Friday, August 17th at 1:00 PM
Are you a creative fly tier? In Reno for 2012, the IFTD show will again feature the Iron Fly Competition. This fun event consists of two rounds of fly tying using the supplied vises, tools, and materials. In addition, all tiers will be supplied a “secret” ingredient that must be used in tying their own creative fly. All tiers will have 15 minutes to complete their fly before being judged for overall quality, originality, and use of the “secret” ingredient. Two winners will move on to compete for the title of the 2012 Iron Fly Champion.
AFFTA’s Party at the Pond
Friday, August 17th at 5:00 PM
Join the entire fly fishing industry for some fun and FREE BEER on Friday night after the show. The “Best of Show” awards will be presented along with some other exciting announcements. It’s a great place to hang out with industry people.
Patagonia Industry Party

After AFFTA’s Party at the Pond on Friday night, don’t miss out on Patagonia’s Industry Party on the Truckee River. Bring your gear and be ready for fishing, food, beer and music. Free shuttles from and to the Atlantis Hotel & Casino.
