Arkansas GFC lifts Trout Stocking Restrictions on Little Red River

Last week, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission placed a trout stocking restriction on the Little Red River due to high water temperatures and low water releases. Southwestern Power Administration responded by releasing additional water from Greers Ferry Dam. Water temperatures have fallen to the point where the stocking restriction has been lifted.

The release cooled water temperatures to 58 degrees at the Dripping Springs Access and 59 degrees at Ramsey Access. Last week, temperatures reached 80 degrees at Ramsey.

Temperatures have remained below 70 degrees for almost a week and are favorable for trout survival, according to Trout Management Biologist Paul Port. “The stocking restrictions that were in place at Lobo Landing and downstream will be lifted, and fish stocking will resume in those locations.” Port said the AGFC will continue to monitor water temperatures and take action where needed.
