Wanted: Owners of West Virginia Big Bucks for Display

If you have a legally harvested and mounted West Virginia big buck trophy, you may be able to show it off to an appreciative audience in September.

The West Virginia Wildlife Federation, the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources and Toyota are seeking hunters who own trophy white-tailed bucks that were legally taken in West Virginia with either bow or gun and have a Pope & Young or Boone and Crockett score of 150 or greater.

The purpose of this search is to set up a West Virginia Big Buck Display at West Virginia’s Celebration of National Hunting and Fishing Day, September 22 – 23, 2012, at Stonewall Resort State Park near Weston in Lewis County. This is the largest event held at a West Virginia state park, attracting thousands of visitors annually. Toyota has been the primary sponsor of the West Virginia Big Buck Display at National Hunting and Fishing Days for the past five years.

Interested hunters who have qualifying head or antler mounts should contact Gene Thorn at 304-924-0245 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. for additional information or a registration form. Additional information and registration forms may also be found on the West Virginia Big Buck Display webpage at: www.wvdnr.gov/hunting/wvbigbucks.shtm.

Participation will be limited to the first 30 qualifying trophy entries received. As an incentive for participation, hunters who display their trophy deer at the two-day event will be entered into an exclusive drawing for several valuable prizes.
