St. Croix National Scenic Riverway: This week’s National Park Getaway
OutdoorHub 08.15.12
Grab your paddle and your longing for scenic beauty and head to this week’s National Park Getaway. The St. Croix and Namekagon rivers offer 255 miles of clean water that glides and rushes through a lush green landscape, offering only hints of human presence.
The St. Croix is one of the last undisturbed, large floodplain rivers in the upper Mississippi River System, and the unequivocal best ways to enjoy it are canoeing, boating and fishing its waters and camping on its banks. Hiking and historic towns also beckon, if you can bear to leave the cool water.
Superintendent Chris Stein invited everyone to plan a visit noting, “The St. Croix and Namekagon are remarkable rivers where people can find adventure and inspiration.”
