Ranger Pro Timothy Dearing Wins Co-Angler Division at 2012 Forrest Wood Cup

Competing in FLW Tour events as a co-angler for the third consecutive year in 2012, Ranger Pro Timothy Dearing’s goal was to finish in the Top 35 of the season point standings and qualify for the Forrest Wood Cup. But when the dust settled, not only had Dearing qualified to fish the Cup, he left Lake Lanier as the co-angler division Champion complete with a $50,000 prize on the sport’s biggest stage.
Dearing, who retired as a colonel from the U.S. Air Force National Guard two years ago, was on his way to becoming a general before leaving the military to fulfill his dream of fishing competitively. During the Forrest Wood Cup, Dearing received plenty of competition. After weighing in a single fish on Day 2, Dearing entered the final day of the tournament in eighth place, 8 pounds, 5 ounces out of the lead. The only angler to break the 10-pound mark on the final day, Dearing brought 11 pounds, 4 ounces on Day 3, giving him 22 pounds, 13 ounces and a Forrest Wood Cup victory.
“This is just an awesome experience,” Dearing said. “Being in the military, I’m very goal-oriented and I had two goals for this season: I wanted to make one Top-10, and I did that at the tournament in Okeechobee. Also, I wanted to qualify for the Forrest Wood Cup. Once I did that, I just relaxed.”
With the win, Dearing earned $50,000 as well as an automatic entry into the co-angler division of the 2013 Forrest Wood Cup.
“Timothy has already done so many things for himself, his family and his country for which he can be very proud,” said Ranger Boats President Randy Hopper. “Winning on the co-angler side is no easy feat; and we congratulate Timothy for his hard-earned win.”
