Youth Hunting Dates Announced for the Forever Wild Field Trial Area

The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) announces two youth dove hunts scheduled at the M. Barnett Lawley Forever Wild Field Trial Area in Hale County. The hunt dates are September 8 and September 15. Online registration for the hunts is available at www.outdooralabama.com/hunting/youth-hunts/youthdove/.

Youth deer and duck hunts will also be held at the Field Trail Area this fall and in early 2013. To register for these hunts, email the ADCNR State Lands Division at DCNR.FWFTA@dcnr.alabama.gov. If you do not have email, register by calling 334-624-9952.

Youth deer and duck hunt dates are:

  •  November 21, 24 and 28 (duck season is closed on November 28)
  •  December 1, 5, 12, 26 and 29
  •  January 2, 5, 12, 19, 23 and 26

A youth hunter, parent or guardian can reserve up to two different hunt dates for the 2012-2013 season. When registering please include a first choice and alternative date for your hunt. Reservations will be filled for the selected dates in the order they are received. State Lands Division staff will send a confirmation email with directions to the facility and details of the hunt.

To participate in the hunts, youth hunters must be age 15 or younger and accompanied by an adult at least 25 years old (or a parent) who holds a valid state hunting license and a Harvest Information Program (HIP) stamp. Hunters should obtain their license and HIP stamp before the hunt since they will not be available on-site.

The M. Barnett Lawley Forever Wild Field Trial Area consists of 4,300 acres in Hale County and is managed as a nature preserve and recreation area. In addition to developing a sporting dog Field Trial/Hunt Test grounds and a youth hunting program, the ADCNR State Lands Division is currently restoring the tract’s native prairie grasslands and managing its numerous ponds for future public fishing. This tract is quickly becoming a nationally recognized sport dog destination and will host the 2012 Master National Retriever Club Hunt Test on October 18-28.
