Colorado’s Roxborough State Park Hosts First Annual Save Our Lands Hike-A-Thon

Roxborough State Park will host the Step Strong, Save Our Lands Hike-A-Thon, organized by the Rocky Mountain Chapter (RMC) of the Sierra Club on Saturday, Sept. 15, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Participants can combine their love of hiking and the outdoors with raising money through pledges to protect the environment. All the proceeds will go to the Sierra Club RMC.
Choose a hike on the scenic trails of Roxborough State Park, which offers four levels of hiking experience, and then use the pledge form to get donations for each mile you hike. From easy to challenging, the hike offers spectacular views of red rock and sandstone formations and diverse, spectacular flora and fauna. You can do one or several trails–there is truly something for everyone of any level, skill or interest.
“We’re excited to team up with the Sierra Club and host this special event,” said Roxborough State Park Manager Todd Farrow. “It gives folks an opportunity to visit their local state park and hike some beautiful trails while raising funds to help protect the environment.”
The Hike-A-Thon participants can also compete for prizes, including a stay at Hotel Colorado in Glenwood Springs with passes to Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park, a night’s stay at Tiredhouse Bed & Breakfast in Salida, a zip-line adventure, and an outdoor jacket from Patagonia. The prizes will be awarded based on the amount of actual pledges received. Multiple copies of hiking and snowshoe trail and guide books by the Sierra Club’s own Alan Apt, will also be awarded.
The cost is $25 for each participant. A daily $7 park pass or $70 annual pass is required to enter the park. Carpooling with fellow participants is recommended to share the cost of the pass.
