KeepAmericaFishing Launches American Angler Challenge

Anglers nationwide can fish their favorite waters, compete against fellow angers across the country and win great prizes all while supporting KeepAmericaFishing and its efforts to keep our waters open, clean and abundant with fish.

As the official beneficiary partner of the American Angler Challenge, five percent of each angler’s $25 entry fee for the next three years will be donated to KeepAmericaFishing. The inaugural largemouth bass and spotted sea trout tournaments officially kicked off Friday, August 31, 2012 and run through October 31, 2012. As an added bonus for these first two tournaments, anglers will receive 20% off their entry fee when they use the promo code KAFAAC12.

To compete in the tournaments, anglers first register at www.AnglerChallenge.com/KAF to receive their identification code. Participates then simply upload a valid photograph of their biggest catch onto the American Angler Challenge website. Cash and other prizes will be awarded at the end of each month to the largest fish caught for largemouth bass and spotted seat trout, based on length of fish. American Angler Challenge prizes are provided by KeepAmericaFishing supporters, Costa del Mar and Buck Knives.

“We are excited about the American Angler Challenge because it gives anglers the opportunity to fish their favorite spot anytime of the year and challenge their friends across the country to compete,” explained Gordon Robertson, vice president of the American Sportfishing Association, the parent organization of KeepAmericaFishing. “With the easy-to-use technology, the American Angler Challenge is a great tournament option for novice and avid anglers alike.”

“The entire American Angler Challenge team and I are elated to be working with KeepAmericaFishing-an organization so critical to our sport’s future-to bring this thrilling new tournament format to so many anglers across the nation,” said Matt Draper, editor-in-chief of GAFF Magazine – parent company to the American Angler Challenge. “With our combined resources, the excitement of competitive fishing is now available to anyone with a rod and reel, regardless of where they live in the United States. It truly is, ‘the fishing tournament reinvented.'”

As an added bonus, the first 150 anglers that register for the KeepAmericaFishing American Angler Challenge will win a Fishbone Design & Metal Sculpture – a $25 value. Anglers will also receive 20 percent off their entry fee by entering promo code KAFAAC12 upon registration. Visit www.AnglerChallenge.com/KAF to register.

KeepAmericaFishing is the fastest growing community of anglers united with one common goal -- to protect our right to sustainably fish on our nation's waterways. As the voice of the American angler, KeepAmericaFishing works to keep our public resources – our oceans, lakes, rivers and streams – open, clean and abundant with fish.

Across the country, preventing or limiting recreational anglers’ access to public waters fisheries is being touted as a new way to manage fish populations. This unprecedented shift undermines the achievements of proven fisheries management methods that focus on conservation and promote sustainable fishing. As a result, the past 10 years have seen a dramatic increase in bans on recreational fishing from the Atlantic to the Pacific, from Texas to Minnesota.

In an effort to combat access restrictions around the country, the American Sportfishing Association launched KeepAmericaFishing to unite the nation’s 60 million anglers under one voice. Through policy, science and conservation, KeepAmericaFishing works to minimize access restrictions, promote clean waters and restore fish populations. With its conservation partners, KeepAmericaFishing works to limit and provide for review and revision science-based closures to areas in which they are clearly beneficial to the health of the fishery.

At KeepAmericaFishing, we are working to give voice to the millions of American recreational anglers who share one thing in common - a passion for fishing.
