Infant Injured in Durham ATV Incident in Maine

At approximately 2:59 PM today, Maine Game Wardens were notified of an incident involving a 1-year-old female who was injured on a John Deere Gator utility vehicle while feeding horses at Celestial Farm in Durham. The vehicle was being operated by the girl’s grandmother and farm owner.

The child was sitting in the passenger seat, secured in her car seat. As the utility vehicle was moving slowly, the child was reportedly playing with the excess strap. The strap became entangled around the child’s neck and caught under the rear-tire causing injury. The child was transported by Durham Fire & Rescue with assistance from Freeport Fire & Rescue Paramedics. She was brought to Maine Medical Center in Portland with reported non-life threatening injuries.

Game Warden Evan Franklin is the primary investigating warden. Assisting in the investigation is Sergeant Tim Spahr and Warden Rick LaFlamme. The incident remains under investigation by Maine Warden Service and no further information is being released at this time.
