Young Climbing Enthusiasts Welcome President to Golden With a Plea to Protect the Outdoors
Colorado’s next generation of climbers and outdoor enthusiasts will be lined up at the corner of 10th and Washington in downtown Golden with a message to President Obama that protecting the outdoors is good for the economy and their future.
The American Alpine Club and the Colorado Mountain Club are co-sponsoring the message, which will be displayed on a large banner, because both organizations recognize that protecting our lands and preserving access for recreational opportunities for future  generations is not only the right thing to do, but is also America’s third largest private economic driver.  Nationwide, outdoor recreation is responsible for $646 billion in economic activity and 6.1 million jobs, according to the Outdoor Industry Association.
President Obama recently acted to protect Fort Ord in California and Fort Monroe in Virginia as National Monuments.  According to media reports, his administration is considering permanent protection for Chimney Rock, a unique climbing and hiking destination in Southern Colorado.
WHAT: The American Alpine Club and Colorado Mountain Club welcome the President to Golden Colorado, thank and ask for continued action to protect America’s public lands for future generations.  8-10 young climbers available for interviews.
