Coast Guard Medevacs Fisherman 30 Southwest of Morgan City, LA

The Coast Guard medevaced a 50-year-old-man aboard a fishing vessel on the Gulf of Mexico, 30 miles southwest of Morgan City, Friday.
The captain of the fishing vessel My Grandkids contacted Coast Guard Sector New Orleans at approximately 8 p.m., reporting that a crewmember was suffering symptoms associated with a stroke. The Coast Guard duty flight surgeon recommended immediate medevac.
An MH-65C Dolphin helicopter and crew from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans located the vessel and successful hoist the man onto the air craft at approximately 10:30 p.m. The man was transported to awaiting emergency medical personnel at Houma-Terrebonne Airport. He was then transferred to West Jefferson Hospital.
“This type of hoist was extremely challenging,” said Lt. Anthony Guido, a pilot on the flight. “Mission success hinges on the proficiency and training of our crews. This is why we train everyday.”
The man was in stable condition at the time of the transfer.
