Colorado’s Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area Hosts a Hike to Lily Pond

On Saturday, Sept. 22, the Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area’s (AHRA) volunteer naturalist Bob Hickey will conduct a day hike to Lily Pond, a secluded mountain lake located on the east side of Mt. Elbert. The hike is a moderate 4.5-mile round-trip and will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 2 p.m. The trail climbs through forested terrain and stunning aspen groves, with spectacular views to the south across the Twin Lakes and autumn painted mountainsides.

Hikers will meet at the trailhead off Highway 82 onto Forest Service Road 125.  Hikers should dress for the weather, wear sturdy shoes, bring water and a picnic lunch to enjoy at a scenic rest stop along the way. Bob Hickey is excited to lead this hike on the first day of autumn and says, “This will be the perfect time to enjoy an outstanding fall color tour.”

Space is limited. To register for the hike or for more information, contact Rose Bayless at AHRA at 719-539-7289.
