Indiana’s Monroe Lake Offering Nature Programs at Bedford Public Library

The Monroe Lake naturalist will present several nature programs for a variety of age groups at the Bedford Public Library in October.

At “Turkey Talk,” Oct. 11, naturalist Jill Vance will discuss the natural history and fascinating story of the wild turkey. “Colors of Fall,” Oct. 18, will explore the science behind autumn leaf colors. Both programs are at 6 p.m. and are recommended for adults and teenagers.

Two preschool programs will be offered. “What Is a Raptor?” on Oct. 3 will introduce children to birds of prey using real feathers and feet. “Stories in the Stars,” on Oct. 24 is about constellations and includes a simple craft. Both programs are at 10 a.m.

School-age children can drop by the children’s department anytime between 3:30 and 5 p.m., Oct. 17-18, for special Earth Science Week activities. “Forming Fossils” on Oct. 17 will showcase real fossils and include a faux fossil craft. “Break It Down” on Oct. 18 will teach children about the process of weathering through a hands-on activity.

The Bedford Public Library is at 1323 K Street in Bedford. For more information, contact Vance at (812) 837-9967 or jvance@dnr.IN.gov.
