Vandals Destroy Signs and Damage Montana BMA Sign-In Area

For the second time in two hunting seasons, vandals have destroyed signs and other property at the Ruby Dell Block Management Area. Earlier this month, several people took part in shooting up the sign on the right with a 12 gauge shotgun and what appear to be a .45 pistol and a rifle. In 2011, clearly bird shot was used to destroy a similar sign.

This year, sign-in books were also shot and one made unusable. Other signs – like the one on the following page – were also used as targets along a roadway accessing the area.

“It’s sad that some people have absolutely no regard for property – even when that property is there to help the public,” said Game Warden Rick Schmauch.

Fish, Wildlife and Parks Enforcement is looking into the matter having received a number of leads from people in the Dillon area. Wardens are following up on tips pointing to a group of four younger people in a white four-door vehicle. This incident is believed to have taken place sometime the evening of Saturday, September 9 or morning on Sunday the 10th.

Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to call Game Warden Rick Schmauch at 406-683-4258 or (800) TIP-MONT.
