2012 Cabela’s King Kat Classic Results from Selma, Alabama

This past Friday and Saturday September 28th & 29th, the Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Trail hit the waters of the Alabama River at Selma, Alabama for the 2012 Cabela’s King Kat Classic. In the event over 125 top anglers from 20 different states were competing for cash and prizes and to be crowned the 2012 Cabela’s King Kat Classic Champions.
Results for the Top 5 Teams
Taking first place and the 2012 Cabela’s King Kat Champions was the team of Carl Morris Jr. of Johnstown, Ohio and Sean Martin of Blacklick, Ohio with a 2-day total weight of 206.05 pounds. Carl and Sean were fishing 20 miles up from Millers Fall Dam in 45-50 feet of water using skipjack heads to catch 20 fish in the 2-day period. Each is allowed to weigh in their top 5 fish each day. For first place Carl and Sean earned a 20 feet OQB Oquawka Boat w/ trailer, 115 hp Evinrude outboard motor, 80lb thrust Max Minn Kota trolling motor, 570 HD Humminbird electronics, 2012 “Angler Of The Year”, boat wrap, 4 comped entries to the 2013 Cabela’s King Kat Tournaments and a $500.00 Cabela’s Gift Card. In second place was the popular Paragould, Arkansas team of Daryl and Jason Masingale with a 2-day weight of 193.55 pounds and earning $5,000.00. Daryl and Jason were fishing 26 miles downriver in 2-30 feet of water using skipjack to catch 25 fish over the 2-days including a 37.15 pound blue cat which earned the team an additional $1,000.00 for big fish of the event.
Third place went to the Bardstown, Kentucky team of Steve and Lisa Douglas weighing in 139.45 pounds and earning $2,500.00 plus a $500.00 Cabela’s Gift Card. Steve and Lisa were fishing 25 miles downriver in 30-35 feet of water using skipjack to catch 24 fish over the 2-days of competition.
Donnie Fountain of Jasper, Georgia and Robert Hazard of Talking Rock, Georgia took fourth place with a weight of 110.0 pounds and earning $1,500.00 along with a $500.00 Cabela’s Gift Card. Donnie and Robert were fishing 2 miles below the Selma Marina in 25-34 feet of water using skipjack to catch 12 fish for the 2-days of competition.
Fifth place went to Ken Luttrell of LaPlace, Illinois and Thomas Luttrell of Ramsey, Illinois with a weight of 95.45 pounds and earning $500.00 plus a $500.00 Cabela’s Gift Card. Ken and Thomas were fishing above Selma in 42 feet of water using skipjack. Ken and Thomas were in 3rd place after day 1 and did not weigh a fish on the final day.
