New Mexico’s Stubblefield Lake Reopens

The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish has entered into an Open Gate agreement with the Vermejo Conservancy District that reopened Stubblefield Lake in northeastern New Mexico for dove and waterfowl hunting in season, and fishing.
This new agreement will keep the lake open to the public for 10 years. While Stubblefield Lake is open for fishing, the current water level is very low and fishing is discouraged. A map and more information will be available soon on the Department of Game and Fish website, www.wildlife.state.nm.us.
While Stubblefield is open, Clayton Lake, Charette Lakes and Maxwell Lakes 13 and 14 will close to fishing Oct. 31, and will reopen March 1, 2013. These northeastern New Mexico lakes are winter resting areas for migrating waterfowl. Shuree Ponds in the Valle Vidal will close Dec. 31, and will reopen July 1, 2013.
Other fishing waters with seasonal closures approaching include Morphy Lake, Oct. 31; Laguna del Campo, Oct. 31; Red River City Ponds, Nov. 15; Black Canyon Creek, Oct. 31; and Mogollon Creek downstream of Trail Canyon, Oct. 31.
